Vancouver man improves single-day Grouse Grind record

Ian Robertson set a new Multi-Grind Challenge on Thursday at Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver while Andrea Johb came within one trip of her mark

Grouse Grind

Ian Robertson one-upped himself this past week completing the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver a whopping 17 times in 19 hours. The single-day feat betters his previous mark of 16 summits of Grouse Mountain set in 2016, according to event organizers.

The Grouse Grind is a 2.9K trail up the face of Grouse Mountain. The route, which climbs 853m and features 2,830 stairs, is commonly referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster.”

The record was set within Tuesday’s Multi-Grind Challenge. Andrea Johb was the top woman with 14 trips of Grouse Mountain bettering Pargol Lakhan and Jenn Golinski, who had 13 apiece. Jeremy Burrows and Tim Wiens were second and third among men with 15 grinds.

Johb holds the record for most Grouse Grinds among women within the event having completed 15 traverses of Grouse Mountain in 2016.

Collectively, the 45 participants completed a total of 434 Grouse Grinds. Grouse Mountain is one of the more popular tourist destinations in Metro Vancouver. Funds raised during the event go to the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.
