Canadians reached the podium in both the Cock-A-Doodle-Shoe men’s and women’s 10K, which doubled as the 2018 North American Snowshoe Championship.

Held in Saranac, N.Y., located approximately 90 minutes south of Montreal, Lisa Leskien and Julien Pinsonneault made it double bronze for Canada at the Jan. 14 championship. Leskien completed the snow-covered course in 1:02:00, 2:30 back of the winner while Pinsonneault ran 10K in 52:22, 4:43 back of the men’s champion.

“I surprised myself at this race, I wasn’t expecting a podium finish, but am i ever grateful for this experience,” Leskien shared on Instagram.

The event also hosted the North American junior championships (over 5K) though both fields were comprised entirely of Americans.

Highly-acclaimed off-road runner Joseph Gray, the 2016 world mountain running champion and 2017 world snowshoe champion, won the men’s race covering 10K in 47:39. Sara Dunham won the women’s championship in 59:29, the only woman in the field to break 60 minutes.

Gray said on Instagram that temperatures were as cool as -22 C in upstate New York on race day.
