12-year-old races Tobermory Half on Ontario’s Bruce Trail
Milton, Ont.'s Benjamin Jagdeo completes the 21.1K trail race on the challenging terrain of the Bruce Peninsula
The Tobermory Half-Marathon is no ordinary 21K.
The half-marathon is run primarily on the Bruce Trail, which features challenging terrain and extends upwards of 890K between Tobermory, Ont. and Queenston, Ont. through the province’s central and south regions. The trail’s terrain provides a test for even the most seasoned runners.
On Saturday, the race had its youngest-ever finisher. Milton, Ont.’s Benjamin Jagdeo completed the 21.1K trail course in 3:49:22. He’s 12.
The pre-teen was running with his teachers for the race, according to event organizers. “An amazing young man,” says Tobermory Trail Race Weekend Half-Marathon and Marathon race director Tara Harpur.
Finishing at the same time as Jadgeo was Kimberley Savage-Paulson, Lucy Hingorani and Anna Karmazin.
According to the race website, the course is “for the most part the Bruce Trail between Tobermory and Cyprus with a few different connections.” Event organizers rate the difficulty level of the course as “high.”
Tobermory Trail Race Weekend on the Bruce Peninsula is a two-day event featuring a marathon and half-marathon on Saturday and a 5K on Flowerpot Island, which is accessible by boat, on Sunday.
