Jim Walmsley gets beaten by a 4-year-old

Jim Walmsley waddles in a pumpkin costume to the finish line at Flagstaff's annual Dawelloween Monster Dash fun run and is beaten by a 4-year-old

On October 26, Jim Walmsley waddled as a pumpkin to the finish line at Flagstaff’s 6th annual Dawelloween Monster Dash. The Western States 100 mile record-holder raced behind marathoner Stephanie Rothstein Bruce and Ben Bruce’s youngest son, Hudson, who is 4. Hudson pushed hard in the race, ensuring he beat Walmsley in his first one mile race.

Hudson broke 11 minutes for the mile. Hudson’s goal wasn’t a Hoka sponsorship like his parents and Walmsley, it was racing for a free ice cream. Runners who beat the pumpkin were awarded with a tasty treat. According to Ben Bruce, Hudson “napped well that afternoon.”

Walmsley’s race against Hudson Bruce may be his last hard push before he heads south for the Mountain Running World Championships in Villa la Angostura, Argentina on November 15.
