Emelie Forsberg took time away from racing this past summer, and the world just found out why. On Friday, Forsberg announced that she and her partner Kilian Jornet are expecting a baby this winter. Endurance adventures may take on a new meaning, while the top mountain athletes prepare for the future generation.

Following her FKT (fastest known time) on the Kungsleden Trail in Sweden on July 7, Emelie cancelled a few races, including Pikes Peak Marathon in Manitou Springs, Colorado. Forsberg, who loves running, skiing, and baking, spent time working at her farm, Moonvalley in the Norwegian Highlands with fellow Salomon athletes Ida Nilsson and Mimmi Kotka.

In case Emelie and Kilian’s offspring wasn’t enough for the future of mountain running, Anna Frost and husband Ron Braselton are also expecting. The two-time Hardrock 100 champion and first female to complete Nolans 14 is 19 weeks pregnant. Frost is currently running 16K at a time, explaining that is what “Tiny” prefers. The couple just wrapped up their Trail Run Adventures running retreat in Ecuador. Frost has also taken a break from full time training and competing following her third Hardrock 100 finish in 2017. Frost is sponsored by Merrell.

Just as training can be easier with others, so can pregnancy. Emelie and Anna both shared on their Instagram stories about experiencing this new and exciting adventure together. Even for the best mountain athletes, preparing for the biggest lifetime adventure is better with friends.
