Kilian Jornet misses UTMB by one point
The former champion is one point short for UTMB admittance
Kilian Jornet, the Everest speed ascent record holder, Spanish ultra runner and former UTMB champion has been left out of UTMB (Ultra Trail Mont Blanc) for insufficient points. The list of elite entries was announced on Thursday and includes big names like Courtney Dauwalter, Jim Walmsley and multi-time champion Xavier Thévenard, but no Jornet.
RELATED: How to qualify for UTMB in Canada
Runners needed to finish their two qualifying races between January 2018 and December 31, 2019 to apply for 2020. The number of points required depends on which race you’re targeting (UTMB-10, CCC-6, TDS-8, OCC-4 points). 2020 is the last year current qualifying standards will apply for UTMB, before organizers implement a new qualifying process.
Jornet is only one point short, and according to Wider Trail Outdoor Magazine, there’s still a chance he’ll be admitted to the race.
As of now, the lottery has been drawn and all possible entrants have received their invitations. Here’s a list of Canadians who are confirmed for what’s been called the Superbowl of ultratrail races.
