Quebec Mega Trail (QMT) has upped the stakes for its 2025 edition by announcing cash prizes for the first time in its history. Known for its stunning views and challenging terrain, the race attracts athletes from across the globe, eager to test their limits in the rugged beauty of Quebec’s trails. Held annually in early July, QMT is a highlight for trail runners, and the addition of a prize purse marks an exciting new chapter.

Prize structure for QMT-135

For the 2025 event, cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers of the newly introduced QMT-135, a 135K race that promises to challenge even the most experienced athletes. The first three men and women will receive a prize of up to $1,000, offering an added incentive for athletes to tackle this epic course. The 135K race, announced earlier this summer, is expected to attract a competitive field of both local and international runners.

Canadian Trail Running Championships

In addition to the QMT-135, the Canadian Trail Running Championships, held within QMT’s 50K and 80K races, will also see cash prizes for the top three Canadian men and women. With up to $900 at stake for each winner, this initiative is intended to support Canada’s top trail running talent and bolster the growth of the sport.

Jean Fortier, general director and founder of QMT, emphasizes the motivation behind this move: “Our team wants to do more for the athletes registered in the Quebec Mega Trail. Offering cash prizes is a natural step in encouraging them and supporting their evolution in the sport.”

A World Trail Major addition

QMT is the sole Canadian stop in the World Trail Major series, which kicks off in Hong Kong in January and continues with races in Arizona, Spain, Japan, Portugal, Switzerland and England before concluding in South Africa in November. Prizes are awarded via the official ranking of the World Trail Majors international circuit. The new QMT prize purse is in addition to any prize money awarded by the World Trail Majors.

Runners can learn more about the event and register for the 2025 edition, which will take place from July 3-6, on the QMT website, here. QMT is currently recruiting elite athletes who will compete in the 2025 edition. The deadline to apply for the elite program is Jan. 1, 2025.
