Southern Ontario’s Sulphur Springs trail race adds 200-miler for 2017
The Sulphur Springs trail race announced recently that the event will have a 200-mile option in 2017 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The Sulphur Springs trail race in southern Ontario will be hosting a 200-mile event in 2017. It’s the only race in Canada to offer a 200-mile option, according to race organizers.
Organizers announced on Oct. 8 that runners will have the option to run the 321-kilometre event, which was added to celebrate the race’s 25th anniversary. The race dates for 2017 are slated to be May 27 and 28, as announced earlier this year.
The late-May race is held in Ancaster, Ont. at the Dundas Valley Conservation Area. The 2016 edition was one of the toughest years to date racing-wise as conditions were 30 C and held in the midst of a heat wave. The recent announcement comes one week after the race also added a 100K option.

“Did you think that anything could be crazier at Sulphur?” reads part of the race announcement.

The 200-mile event is, tentatively, 16 loops of the course rather than the eight loops for the 100-mile race, which has been run in the past.
The popular trail race’s new distance will be added to the other distance options including a 10K, 25K, 50K, 50-mile, 100K, 100-mile and 100-mile relay. Further details about race cut-off times can be found below. The race also requires runners to hit certain qualifying criteria to be eligible to compete.

There are only a select group of races in Canada that offer distances above 100 miles. The Yukon Artic Marathon, however, hosts a 300-mile race in February.
