The men’s race
With 1,700m of vertical drop in this 22-kilometre race, Angermund did not enter Sunday’s competition as the clear favourite, but he managed to run a spectacular race, crossing the finish line in 1:51:36.23. Behind him was Elhousine Elazzaoui of Morroco in 1:52:01.05, and Swiss runner Joey Hadorn in third in 1:52:26.17.
“Rémi and Elhousine were really very strong in the uphill,” said Angermund after the race. “I stayed on Thibaut Baronian’s heels and found a rhythm, so I didn’t lose too much time. Then, once I was on the ridge after Forcella Pordoi I sprung forward to catch up with Rémi. Elhousine was far ahead, I wasn’t sure I could catch him, but I managed it.”

The women’s race
In the absence of Maude Mathys, Wyder entered Sunday’s race as the favourite, and the Swiss runner delivered. The winner of the race in 2019 (and 2019 Golden Trail World Series Champion), Wyder defended her crown in 2:14:33.77. Barely a minute behind her was the Czech Republic’s Marcela Vasinova in second in 2:15:31.60, and Mexico’s Karina Carsolio rounded out the podium in 2:18:16.42.
“I can’t say I’m not happy, I’m even thrilled,” Wyder said after she finished, “it’s a great victory after my second pregnancy. But I don’t think I’m back to my 2019 level yet. I don’t think the time is good and I will need to work harder to improve. But I’m very happy and I’m especially enjoying the fact both my daughters were here with my husband and that really boosted me.”
