On Monday, we reported Toronto ultrarunner @aidstationfireb’s (a.k.a. Liam Tryon) informed predictions on who will toe the start line at this year’s UTMB Final; on Tuesday the race posted its official start list for all finals-week races, confirming that course record holder Jim Walmsley of Flagstaff, Ariz., will return to Chamonix on Aug. 29.
There are a number of other updates to the story: four-time winner François D’Haene, 2024 second-place Western States 100 (WSER) finisher Rod Farvard, 2024 WSER third-place finisher Hayden Hawks, 2022 UTMB third-place finisher Tom Evans of the U.K. and New Zealand’s Ruth Croft, who finished second in 2024, are all confirmed, along with three-time winner Courtney Dauwalter, 2025 Hardrock 100 champion Ludovic Pommeret, Western States winner Abby Hall and third-place finisher Marianne Hogan of Montreal (see below).
(On Aug. 8, 2025, Hogan posted on social media that she had to withdraw from this year’s race due to injury in her final preparations.)
Canada’s Arden Young, who finished second to Dauwalter at the Crown King Scramble 50K in March, and former pro cyclist Christian Meier (who won the 2023 TDS race) will also be lining up.
2025 Hardrock 100 winner and two-time UTMB champion Katie Schide is not on the start list.
Several other big names have indicated their intention to appear at some of the other UTMB finals week races, including Canadians Jazmine Lowther, Élisa Morin, Sarah Bergeron Larouche, Valérie Arsenault and Sam Hendry at OCC, Ethan Peters and Eva Gifford at TDS.
