WATCH: final racer’s remarkable finish at Squamish 50K

Nicole Quinn had been running for over 11 hours; what was one last sprint?

Best Canadian trail races

With only a few seconds remaining on the clock, fans were roaring as North Vancouver’s Nicole Quinn managed to muster up an epic final sprint at the notoriously tough Squamish 50K. After over 11 hours of running and 2,500 metres of elevation gain, Quinn dashed in to make it just under the cut-off of 11.5 hours.

Race director Gary Robbins was waiting at the finish line to give his traditional (huge) hug. This video reminds us why ultras are special: the final finishers are celebrated as much as the first.

The Squamish 50 has become one of the biggest ultra races in Canada, and this weekend runners took to the trails of Squamish, B.C. for the annual event. After a very wet 2021 race, runners and volunteers alike enjoyed much drier conditions and ran some course record-breaking times on the tenth anniversary of the race.
