McLaughlin took Hoka's 'Fly Human Fly' slogan to a whole new level

American ultrarunning champion Allie McLaughlin recently announced her new partnership with Hoka in an unusual way: by jumping out of a hot air balloon. In addition to being a mountain running world champion and one of the top ultrarunners in the U.S., McLaughlin is an avid skydiver. Before she leapt from the balloon, McLaughlin shouted Hoka’s slogan, “Fly Human Fly.”

McLaughlin, who previously ran for the On Running team, is coming off a spectacular 2022 season. In June 2022, she won the Broken Arrow Skyrace Vertical K (a race that sees competitors cover 1,000m of elevation in just over 7K) in California, then two days later she placed second in the Broken Arrow 23K trail run; she was fourth at the Pikes Peak half-marathon in Colorado, and closed the year off with a win at the World Mountain Running Championships in Thailand. At worlds, McLaughlin ran to the win in the women’s uphill race, which was 8.5K in length and featured 1,065 metres of elevation gain.

As the team at Hoka said, McLaughlin “flies on the trails as well” as in the air. “When she isn’t tackling trails around the world, Allie spends her time mountain biking, snowboarding [and] skydiving.” Now with her new sponsor, McLaughlin will look to repeat her amazing 2022 season this year and live up to the Hoka slogan even more than she already has.
