In the video, D’Haene walks you through the race, starting with the nervous and excited energy on the start line and up into the quiet solitude of the mountains. He describes what it’s like to run through the night and the welcome relief that comes with the sunrise. While most runners would welcome the sight of the finish line, D’Haene describes a mixture of emotions, including happiness that his training paid off and he got to the end but also sadness knowing that his epic mountain adventure had come to a close.

The short video is packed with the beautiful views that reward runners who are brave enough to tackle the challenging race, as well as the excitement of the final few kilometres as D’Haene makes his way through the streets of Chamonix to the finish line. Whether you’re an ultra-trail runner or not, it will inspire you to get out and explore the trails near you, and may even have you considering training for an ultra-trail race yourself.
