103-year-old wants to race Usain Bolt

A 103-year-old Japanese sprinter, Hidekichi Miyazaki, has told AFP this week that he wants to race Usain Bolt. His birthday is next month.

Although Japan’s “Golden Bolt’s” 29.83-second 100m result is over three times slower than Bolt’s 9.56-second world record, it is still the fastest known time for a centenarian and he’s challenged the Jamaican spring superstar to a race.

“I’d love to race Bolt,” says Miyaziki, whose 104th birthday is next month.

Miyazaki hopes he can keep running until he’s able to set the record for athletes over 105 and believes he may be able to keep running until 108.

“That’s what I’m training for,” Miyazaki said to AFP. “It’s my birthday next month and that’s my next goal. I can run for another five years.”
