STREAM: How to watch the IAAF World Cross-Country Championships

All the information you need for the 2017 IAAF World Cross-Country Championships, set for Sunday in Kampala, Uganda.

World Cross-Country Championships Stream

The IAAF World Cross-Country Championships are Sunday and there’s good news for Canadians: the event will be streamed live through CBC Sports. Canada sends a strong team of U20- and senior-level runners featuring NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean) champions Sasha Gollish, Brogan MacDougall and Kieran Lumb.

The championships are being held in Kampala, Uganda in East Africa, which is considered the hub for global distance running. Canadians qualified for the national team based on placement at the 2016 Canadian Cross-Country Championships in Kingston, Ont. back in November.

The biennial event was last held in Guiyang, China in 2015. Action in Uganda gets underway at 7 a.m. on March 26. (The event occurs in the late afternoon local time.)

Notable international runners include Asbel Kiprop, the 2008 Olympic 1,500m champion and three-time world champion, Genzebe Dibaba, the women’s 1,500m world record holder, and 2012 Olympic marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich, who will be competing on home soil. Kiprop and Dibaba will contest the mixed relay.

Kenya and Ethiopia have dominated the world cross-country championships winning 127 of a possible 166 team titles in the event’s history. Kololo Airstrip “Independence Grounds” hosts the event in Kampala, the nation’s capital city.
