7 marathons, 7 continents, 7 days

Ice Marathon

A small group of runners are finishing a whirlwind week of the World Marathon Challenge that saw them race a different marathon on each continent each day.

The last race was held Friday in Sydney, Australia after a trip around the world that involved race in Antarctica; Punta Arenas, Chile; Miami, Fla.; Madrid; Marrakech, Morocco; and Dubai, UAE.

The event only hosted 12 runners from around the world, none of whom were Canadians.

The only American, Tim Durbin, told the Associated Press after his race in Morocco “in the last 48 hours I’ve slept less than nine hours and ran three marathons.”

The entry fee for the entire event is just shy of $45,000.
