The BMO Vancouver Marathon is expanding the ways you can take home prizes in 2015 with new races within the race.

The most literal understanding of this will be the new Camosun Hill Challenge which will see timing mats placed at the bottom and top of the course’s signature climb, coaxing runners to embrace the toughest section of the race. Camosun Hill climbs 54 m over a 1,230 m section of course, but prizes will be given out for the fastest runners between the bottom and top who aren’t listed as elites.

Organizers are also hoping to convince runners to join a team in 2015. There are new prizes for the largest and fastest teams in the marathon. Largest in sheer number of runners and fastest being the lowest time of the top five runners on a team combined.

“We are delighted to introduce these new races within the race for the 2015 event,” said executive director Charlene Krepiakevich in a press release. “These unique challenges add a fun and competitive element for runners and will create excitement and motivation.”

There will be a new media challenge and youth 8K race added to the event for the upcoming year. The youth race is open to runners ages 12-18 and the fastest team wins prize money for their school’s sports program.

Registration for the 2015 event is open and remains at the lowest price until Sunday on Nov. 30. The race will be on May 3, 2015.
