Boston doesn’t want the 2024 Olympics

Boston finish

Boston finish

The idea of a Boston Marathon course playing host to no biggest sporting event in the world.

Though it’s been picked as the United States’ bid city for the 2024 Olympics, residents of the Boston area don’t seem to want the Olympics in their city. Already unpopular among many in the city, support is actually falling, despite recent suggestions that the Games could be covered with largely private money.

In January, barely half of Bostonians supported bringing the Games to their city, a survey pegging the number at 51 per cent. By February that number had fallen to 42 per cent.

The most recent March numbers have come in at 36 per cent in favour of hosting the Olympics, according to a recent poll conducted by the city’s public radio station, WBUR.

Even if the city, contrary to many not wanting to host, is awarded the Games, there would still be many hoops to jump through before the marathon could be hosted on Boston’s iconic downhill, point-to-point course.
