Canadian Marylou Corino surges into 2nd place in women’s field at Badwater Ultramarathon

Canada’s Marylou Corino of Georgetown, Ont. has jumped into second place in the women’s race two-thirds of the way into the 135-mile Badwater Ultramarathon in Death Valley, California.

Canada’s Marylou Corino, 35, of Georgetown, Ont. has jumped into second place in the women’s race two-thirds of the way into the 135-mile Badwater Ultramarathon in Death Valley, California.

After 90 miles (145K) of racing through blistering hot conditions, Corino passed the Darwin checkpoint in 21 hours, 10 minutes, nearly two hours ahead of the third-place woman, Catherine Todd of Australia, and 48 minutes behind ultrarunning legend Pam Reed of Jackson, Wyoming.

In the men’s race, Glen Redpath continues to lead the Canadians at Badwater, and is currently sitting in 21st place. Carlos Gomes De Sa of Portugal is in first place through the Lone Pine checkpoint at 122 miles in 21:25.
