Canadians smash world record for 70-79 age-group in women’s 4x800m relay
Canadians set a new world record in the 70-79 age-group for the women's 4x800m relay last month at the Canadian Masters Track and Field Championships.
Canadian Masters Athletics has confirmed a new world record in the 70-79 age-group for the women’s 4x800m relay, set last month at the Canadian Masters Track and Field Championships in Regina, Sask.
Alice Cole of Montreal, 80, Carol Lafayette-Boyd, 72, from Regina, Helly Visser, 79, of Calgary and Lenore Montgomery, 83, of Vancouver, ran the relay in 15:41.21, smashing the previous mark from 2007 by more than a minute.
Alice Cole started running when she turned 71. Ever since, she has participated successfully throughout the world. Carol Lafayette-Boyd as a sprinter has gathered many records throughout her racing career. Helly Visser participated in two world record relays, the 4x400m and now the 4x800m. Lenore Montgomery is a Canadian record holder.
The Canadian masters athletes are training to take part in the 2013 World Masters Athletics Championships in October in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
