Casey Affleck to star in Boston Strong movie

BostonStartAlready in Boston filming The Finest Hours, written by Eric Johnson and John Ridley, Casey Affleck has agreed to star in another of the co-writers’ just-announced upcoming films about the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon attacks.

Affleck, younger brother to Ben Affleck, will be joining up again with Johnson and Ridley to be a part of Boston Strong. The two adapted the script from an upcoming book of the same name by true crime author Casey Sherman and former Boston Herald reporter David Wedge, who was one of the paper’s central reporters covering the 2013 attacks that saw two bombs detonated at the finish line of the iconic race.

Affleck and Ridley will also produce the film with Dorothy Aufiero.

The Afflecks, who went to the same high school as the alleged bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, have kept close times with their home state of Massachusetts. The brothers acted alongside each other in Good Will Hunting and both have been involved in other Boston-set films.

Boston Strong does not yet have a studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
