Douma-Hussar 2nd in Millrose 1500

Carmen Douma-Hussar 2nd in 1500; Windsor relay teams 1st and 4th at prestigious New York meet.

Canadian Olympian Carmen Douma-Hussar finished second in Friday night’s Fred Lebow 1500 at the Millrose Games. Douma-Hussar had been the pre-race favourite, but she was upset by America’s Sara Hall, who got the win in 4:15.35 to Douma-Hussar’s 4:16.73 on the tight Madison Square Garden track.

On the men’s side, Bernard Lagat — 8-time winner of the Wannamaker Mile — saw his streak end as Ethiopian Deresse Mekonnen held off Lagat’s kick to win in 3:58.58. Lagat was right behind in 3:59.01.

The 4 X 800m relays featured teams from the University of Windsor competing against some top American talent. In the women’s race, a team of Melissa Bishop, Raeleen Hunter, Amanda Kanters and Carly Gill got the win in 8:57.84 over the New York Athletics Club and the University at Albany. The men’s team of Adam Kellar, Mitch Tome, Ben Lane and Matt Walters finished fourth in 7:41.98, five seconds back from the winning team from Virginia.
