Dylan Wykes gets a new four year contract from Mizuno

Canada's second fastest all-time marathoner is now locked up until after the Rio 2016 Olympics.

All the hard work in 2012 is paying off for Dylan Wykes.

Canada’s second fastest marathoner of all-time has secured himself a four year extension with his primary sponsor, Mizuno.

The native of Kingston, Ont. has been with the sporting goods manufacturer since 2008.

Wykes had a dramatic 2012 that was filled with disappointment and huge successes. The year started off poorly when he dropped out of the Lake Biwa Marathon while in search of a qualifying time for the London Olympics.

But Wykes recovered nicely and ran the second fastest marathon in Canadian history at Rotterdam last April, which also secured his spot on the Olympic team.

He then fought through warm conditions and a challenging course at the Olympics and was the first Canadian finisher.

Wykes will carry his new contract through to a bid to run in the 2016 Games in Rio.

Here is what Mizuno president John Stacey had to say in a press release after Wykes’ re-signing:

“Dylan is a dedicated and talented runner who embodies Mizuno’s corporate message of “Never Settle.”  We are thrilled to have Dylan represent Mizuno for the next 4 years as he devotes himself to training and qualifying for Rio 2016.  As a member of Mizuno’s International Racing Team our support for Dylan stretches beyond Canada and we look forward to standing behind him, cheering him on, in his on-going evolution as a professional runner.”
