Dylan Wykes joins Scotiabank Marathon field

Canada's No. 3 marathoner joins an amazing Canadian field for the Toronto marathon.

The Toronto Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon has lined up a Canadian marathoning dream match. All four of the nation’s top marathoners are slated to compete head to head in the October, 2011  race.

We reported on March 1 that the race had secured the Nation’s Nos. 1, 2 and 4 ranked marathoners in Reid Coolsaet, Eric Gillis and Rob Watson. Now the field has gotten even better, thanks to the addition of Canada’s No. 3, Dylan Wykes.

Wykes had a breakthrough race at the California International Marathon last October, winning in a time of 2:12.39. That run took nearly 3 minutes off of his old personal best to make Wykes the 11th fastest marathoner in Canadian history. This Fall, he’ll be aiming to get under the Canadian Olympic qualifying standard of 2:11.30. It should be a tight race, with Gillis and Watson also chasing that same standard.

And as if this field weren’t exciting enough, race organizer Alan Brookes has indicated that he is in ongoing talks with National 10,000m record holder Simon Bairu, hoping to get him to join the field as well.
