Flocasts Inc. raises $8 million in funding

flotrackOne of the major content producers of track and field coverage in North American and around the world, Flocasts Inc., recently reported raising $8 million in funding. The financing was announced earlier this month.

Flocasts, an Austin , Texas, sports company that runs Flotrack, among other niche sports titles, is in part responsible for making live coverage of running and track and field more accessible to fans than it was in the past. Many races and events around North America and Europe are only available through the website. The company also owns Flowrestling, Gymnastike and Cyclingdirt, similar websites that serve the sports of wrestling, gymnastics and mountain biking.

A statement on the website reads: “We focus on the untapped sports market neglected by traditional media. We cover sports with a focused vertical approach. This significant market of enthusiasts and passion driven participants are craving authentic and timely content. They do not want to dilute their passion.”

Many major Canadian races are broadcast on Flotrack, including much of the popular National Track League meetings which see some of the world’s top international talent competing on Canadian soil.

It’s unclear how the money will be used within the organization, though there have been hints they may be interested in entering the CrossFit market by suggesting they may air the Crush Games, a three-day competition held in August.
