While most people had their eyes on Galen Rupp at the Foot Traffic Holiday Half-Marathon in Portland, Ore. on Sunday, Jake Stout was arguably the second most popular competitor.

Rupp, the Olympic 10,000m silver medallist won the race in 1:01:20 but Stout broke the unofficial world record for running a half-marathon in an animal costume. The race needs to be ratified by Guinness World Records to be considered an official record.

Sporting a bunny costume, Stout ran 1:21:16 and bested the previous world record of 1:22:31, held by Glen Turner, who wore a sheep costume.

Stout is a former All-American with Oregon’s Willamette University and has run several marathons including New York City, Boston, and Chicago.

The Oregon native was inspired to race as Ralphie from the movie A Christmas Story. Many competitors on Sunday wore holiday-themed attire.
