Halloween running fashions

Halloween is here, let's get creative!

Halloween is here and it’s time to take your running fashion to another level.

I’ve been brainstorming running-themed costumes. Here’s a list of my own suggestions, ideas I’ve seen online and thoughts from the Canadian Running Facebook page.

  1. Classic/Zombie marathon runner. Put on your cutest running gear and go as you on marathon day. This is probably best for a last minute costume. But, spice it up and be a zombie runner? Some white makeup and fake blood, you’re good to go.
  2. Full tracksuit runner. Go out in style in a classic full body velour run suit and headband, like the character Sue Sylvester from Glee. Or, get the kind with the reflective bands up the side of the pants that are windproof. You’ll be nice and warm!
  3. Water girl/guy. Take hydration to another level and have a water backpack that can be filled with anything, really. You’ll be a walking party.
  4. Track coach. High shorts, whistle, tank top. Get those party people to step up their game!
  5. Is your refrigerator running?  Stick on a cardboard box painted like a fridge and some running gear and make the most out of this classic joke.
  6. A Pace Bunny.  Sarah Brebner on Facebook said, “Last year I dressed up as a pace bunny. Just for fun, I looked up what the qualifying time would be for my age category for a Boston Qualifier, and I put that time on my pink bunny ears.”
  7. Richard Simmons. Also a classic costume, although not technically a runner, Deana Bastian Bell suggested that it’s “close enough.”
  8. An Olympic runner. Carry around a flag and dress in red and white! Don’t want to carry around a flag? Stick a ton of medals around your neck. You’ll look like a winner all night.
  9. A half-marathoner. This is for the committed Halloween costume goers. Cut a running outfit in half and cut an office suit in half and sew them together. Voila! You’re a half marathon runner.
  10. Roadrunner. Wear a grey full body suit of sorts and draw white street lines down the middle with some running shoes.

Some of my ideas may be horrible, but I think the point of Halloween is to just dress up at all. A lot of these costumes you can grab at a thrift store or you might even have some of the items kicking around the house. Being a “runner” for Halloween is perfect for the last minute “Ugh, I guess I’ll go out,” kind of friends, taking the kids out, or even for grabbing a quick run after the party. 😉

Don’t forget to share any of your running costume pictures from this weekend on our Facebook wall or tweet them to us. Also, there’s still time for suggestions!
