Hoka One One president gives statement on death of athlete David Torrence

The president of the athlete's sponsor company shares words about his death.

This week, the running community was hit with some tragic news. Track runner David Torrence was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool in Arizona. He was 31. 

The runner competed for the U.S. before transferring his eligibility to Peru. He was found at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 28. He ran professionally for Hoka One One. 

Torrence won silver in the 5,000m at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. He also set the Peruvian 5,000m at the final in Rio when he ran 13:23.20. Upon hearing the news of his death, Canadian athletes shared fond memories and words of the fellow athlete. Since then, Wendy Yang, president of Hoka also commented on the death of Torrence.

“The HOKA ONE ONE family is deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of one of our star athletes, David Torrence. David was an amazing man who showed tremendous strength and dedication in everything he did both personally and professionally. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
