How can I celebrate Paddy’s Day like the true runner that I am?

Q:  St. Patrick’s Day is coming up and I’m sad because I don’t have any plans. I want to celebrate this holiday like the true runner that I am. What should I do? I’m going for authentic here.

A: Well, your green 2011 Boston Marathon jacket is finally good for something! Dust it off, zip it up and give strangers the Paddy’s Day gift of spotting a runner in green. Don’t have one? A wool blend base layer will feel nearly as festive. Of course, you could also visit Boston which has a large Irish population. Revel in the vibrant city where running and Irish cultures blend. Other options could include running in a field, enjoying a post-run green beer or making green smoothies with cabbage.

For the party runner, there are numerous beer miles and St. Patrick’s Day themed races to choose from. But if you’re looking for something more serious, take the workout to a petting zoo and pet sheep on your set break.

And don’t forget nutrition. Since beer is made from wheat, it’s an excellent source of carbohydrates. We’re thinking ditch the pasta, have pints instead. Scared about the belly? Don’t worry, working it off will be great running motivation for April!

Sláinte!
