James Linde wins a silver medal in the men's 200m on Saturday while Jessica O'Connell adds a silver herself the following day at the World University Games
James Linde put Canada on the board in the medal standings for athletics at the 2017 World University Games.
On Saturday, the Langley, B.C. athlete won silver in the men’s 200m on the fourth day of action at the Taipei global championships for university-aged competitors. The 23-year-old, who was running out of lane one, the innermost lane, clocked 20.96, 0.03 seconds behind champion Jeffrey John of France. First through eighth were separated by 0.23 seconds.
“I had no idea I was second when I crossed the line so when I saw my name up there I almost teared up,” Linde told The Canadian Press. “I never expected a medal and that was amazing.”

The international multi-sporting event, often known as FISU, the French acronym for the International University Sports Federation, is held every two years.
