Jamie McDonald to finish cross-Canada journey

Jamie McDonald

Jamie McDonald

Jamie McDonald, a Briton who has been running across Canada since March of 2013, is expected to reach the Pacific Ocean today in Vancouver.

McDonald has been running across the country dressed as the superhero The Flash and raising money for Children’s charities. He has now raised over $200,000, gone through 10 pairs of shoes and run more than 8,000K.

McDonald will visit to the Terry Fox statue today at BC Place in Vancouver before heading to the English Bay ferry, which he will take to Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island, ending his trip across the mainland. Tomorrow he will run from Swartz Bay to Victoria, B.C., fully concluding his journey. He will stay in Vancouver until next week to conclude his fundraising efforts before returning home.

The runner has been slowly working his way through the B.C. interior since the beginning of January after being mugged in Banff, Alt., on New Year’s Day.

He is believed to be the first Briton to run across Canada unaided.

The 27-year-old is from Gloucester, a city in the U.K. In January of 2012 he decided to cycle from Bangkok to Gloucester to raise money for charity.
