Notable Canadian indoor track results from this past weekend
It was a busy weekend for Canadian track athletes. Get caught up on all the action with results from Seattle, Boston and Montreal.
The final weekend of January proved to be a busy time for Canadian elites competing across North America.
From as far west as Seattle at the University of Washington Invitational, to the east coast in Boston at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic and New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, there were lots of strong Canadian results. University of Washington Invitational

At the University of Washington’s Dempsey Indoor facility in Seattle, two Canadians came away with wins in the distance events including Andrea Seccafien in the women’s 3,000m and Justyn Knight in the men’s mile (1,609m). Seccafien, a 2016 Olympian, ran 9:11.39 with fellow Canadian Erica Digby in third in 9:13.83.

Knight, who attends Syracuse, defeated Olympian Andrew Wheating in the men’s mile in 3:59.54 by virtue of his late-race kick. Charles Philibert-Thiboutot and Nate Brannen went 2-3 in the men’s 3,000m running 7:46.22 and 7:47.18, respectively. See finish line footage of the men’s 3,000m below.
Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic
Boston was the site of two major meets on the weekend including the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. At the Terrier Classic, Syracuse’s Adam Palamar, a native of Ottawa, threw down a 3:57.39 mile for the win. That’s the fastest time by a NCAA Division One athlete in 2017, according to TFRRS statistics. Antoine Thibeault ran the fastest indoor mile by a Quebec athlete in the same race.

Across town, Nicole Sifuentes set an indoor personal best finishing fourth in the women’s 3,000m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. The two-time Olympian in the 1,500m ran 8:53:85 at the Saturday afternoon race.

McGill Team Challenge
Billed as Canada’s largest indoor track and field competition, the McGill Team Challenge was held Friday and Saturday in Montreal. See our full recap of the event here.
