Kate Harrison, Canadian Juniors golden at NACAC

Canadians and Americans duel at the NACAC XC Championships in Trinidad and Tobago.

The North American, Central American and Carribean Cross Country Championships, held on Feb. 19 in Trinidad and Tobago, played out as a dual meet between Canada and the USA.

The Canadian juniors started the day with wins for both the men’s and the women’s teams. The junior men not only won, but managed a clean sweep of the medals, led by Ross Proudfoot’s first-place finish.

In the Senior races the tables were turned, and it was the Americans who came out on top. This was in spite of several strong, individual runs by Canucks, most notably Kate Harrison’s gold medal victory in the women’s race. Cam Levins was second in the men’s race, behind the American Robert Cheseret (younger brother of miling legend Bernard Lagat).

Athletics Canada picks its team for worlds

The victories by Canada’s two junior teams secured berths to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Spain, March 20. The senior men’s team also qualified based on its second-place finish. Kate Harrison will represent Canada as an individual in the Senior women’s race.

Here is Canada’s roster for the world championships.
