Kenneth Mungara breaks masters world record in Milan

Keneth Mungara won the 2009 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2:08:30.

Four-time Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon champion Kenneth Mungara, 41, broke a longstanding masters world record today at the Milan City Marathon. He ran a 2:08:44.

That beats the previous record of 2:08:46 set by Mexican runner Andres Espinosa in 2003. Mungara’s career best in 2:07:36 which he ran in 2011 in Prague. Mungara celebrated his fourth Scotiabank win in Toronto in 2011. The year before, he raced a 2:07:58 marathon, making news for being the fastest time ran on Canadian soil.

Lucy Karimi came first in the women’s race this morning. She ran a 2:27:35.

The Milan City Marathon is an IAAF Bronze Label race. The start was at 9:30 local time this morning in 22C weather.
