Kilian Jornet looking to become first to win all three Skyrunner titles

Killian Jornet is looking to become the first athlete ever to win all three Skyrunner World Series titles in a single season at this weekend’s Skyrunner vertical kilometre and sky finals in Lake Garda, Italy.

The Spaniard has already locked up the sky and ultra titles for the 2015 season and will race both the vertical kilometre and sky race distances this weekend at the final meeting of the season. He has a shot at winning the vertical challenge which would make him the first athlete ever to do so, but he will be in tough company.

Other runners in contention for the overall vertical title are Marco Moletto and Nejc Kuhar. Ten of the top 11 vertical runners will be lining up looking to upset.

For each series title, the winner takes homes $25,000 USD, meaning Jornet has the potential to take home $75,000 USD.

Jornet has become at global star in the ultrarunning and mountain running communities. He has won many of the toughest and most prestigious ultra races on earth, some multiple times. He is also a world-class ski mountaineer.

In the women’s races, British Olympian Julia Bleasdale will try her first sky race. The Olympian finished eighth in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2012 Games in London.
