Komen challenges Bekele to break 3000m record

Kenya's Daniel Komen has issued a challenge to Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele — to try to eclipse his indoor best of 7:24.90, set in Budapest in 1998.

Kenya’s Daniel Komen, the man who holds the world indoor and outdoor records for 3000m, has issued a challenge to Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele — to try to eclipse his indoor best of 7:24.90, set in Budapest in 1998.

Bekele was to make a record attempt at the Meeting Pas de Calais in France, on Mar. 5, but he withdrew due to a calf injury.

Komen said he believes Bekele has the ability to break his records, but he’s still hoping a Kenyan does it first. Komen has pledged to buy a new Mercedes Benz for any of his countrymen, if they beat Bekele to the record.

You can read more about Komen’s challenge in this article from the Daily Nation.
