London group gives ‘running home’ a new meaning

Ever wished you could run home from work? Lucky Londoners have access to a new service that helps them do just that – and it even makes sure their bags get home too.

The new service, Home Run London, has an ambitious goal of trying to get more people running before the London Olympics next summer. The idea is that a group leader will take people on a fun run home from work, anywhere from ½ a mile up to 5 miles – and they’ll even transport runners’ gear home with them on bike.

But the runs aren’t just to promote health and fitness. The idea is also to help people consider alternative transportation methods before the 2012 Olympics, when gridlock and traffic woes could clog up city streets.

The group currently runs from Charing Cross to Clapham Common, but the organization behind the runs, Limelight Sports, is already planning to launch routes from Waterloo to Clapham Junction and Canary Wharf to Waterloo. The Home Run website also asks users to suggest other routes, with the expectation of adding more routes in the future.
