Manitoba Marathon Appoints New Executive Director

winnipeg manitobaThe Board of Directors for the Manitoba Marathon is delighted to announce the appointment of Rachel Munday as the new Executive Director, effective March 1st. Ms Munday takes over from past Executive Director Shirley Lumb, who retired at the end of December.

“We’re thrilled to have Rachel come on board to lead the team at the Manitoba Marathon as we approach our 37th race,” says Leilani Kagan, Board Chair. “Her experience as a race director and passion for the sport of running, together with her team leadership, community relationships, and commitment to the foundation, make her the ideal candidate to carry forward the legacy of the Manitoba Marathon.”

Ms. Munday has spent the last 10 years of her professional career promoting healthy living and community involvement through the sport of running. She comes to the marathon after nearly a decade at the Running Room, where her management and leadership skills advanced her to the position of Regional Manager & Events Coordinator. A veteran race director, in her role at the Running Room Ms. Munday led the city’s Hypothermic Half Marathon, the Winnipeg 10 + 10, Resolution Run, and Electric Donkey run, and partnered with numerous other local races to help them grow.  She is also an avid runner herself, having complete 4 full and countless half marathons.

Manitoba Marathon 2009.“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of Manitoba’s premiere running event,” says Ms. Munday. “Together with the Manitoba Marathon staff and volunteer teams, I look forward to growing both the race and the positive impact it has on the community.”

About the Marathon

Founded in 1979, the Manitoba Marathon is the third-largest event of its kind in Canada, and includes a full marathon, half marathon, relay, 10K run and the super run. A community event, the Marathon brings out more than 20,000 participants and volunteers of all ages. Over the years the Marathon has raised more than $5 million to support projects for people who live with an intellectual disability. The 37th annual Manitoba Marathon will take place on Father’s Day,June 21st, 2015. Registration is now open.
