MapMyRUN launches app for NYC marathon

Going to watch the NYC marathon this Sunday? There’s an app for that.

MapMyRUN now has an official ING New York City Marathon Mobile Spectator App that allows users to watch live video of the men’s and women’s pro races, as well as NBC4New York’s live coverage.

If you know someone running in the race, the app will also let you track as many as 10 runners simultaneously. The app will offer race coverage, news and up-to-the-minute information.

And for those people lucky enough to attend the race, there’s an extensive NYC guide that will help you find popular restaurants, attractions and retail listings. There’s even an interactive course map and the ability to share information via Facebook, Twitter and email.

Even runners can use the app to transmit their locations to friends and family during the race.

The app works on any Android device with OS 2.3, or on any iPhone or iPad with iOS 4.1.
