The heart of New York City was especially bustling today. Over 8,000 women runners gathered in Manhattan at 8:00 a.m. to race the Oakley Mini 10K.

Among them were top cream-of-the-crop elite runners including Canada’s Natasha Wodak. Wodak placed ninth today running a quick one– 33:30. Conditions today were definitely on the hot side too. Temperatures were around 25C with humidity. Wodak’s 5K split time today was 16:13.

Kenyan athlete Mary Keitany led to pack coming first by a full minute and 15 seconds. She ran a 31:15. In second place was Betsy Saina coming in at 32:30. Edna Kiplagat placed third with her time of 32:39. For full results of the race, click here.

Today was the 44th running of the Oakley 10K. It started out in 1972 with only 72 runners. Then, it was created as a way to provide a space for women’s road racing. It has since grown in popularity not only attracted large crowds and higher numbers of runners, but it also features athletes from around the globe.

Of course, there’s also the festive atmosphere of this metropolitan race. Check out what both elites and regular runners posted on social media from New York today.
