A Kiwi couple has broken the record for running a distance that equals a marathon on the most consecutive days.

Janette Murray-Wakelin, 64, and Alan Murray, 68, ran 15,000K around Australia over a span of 366 days, ending on Jan. 1, 2014. Each day the couple covered 42.3K or farther.

On Jan. 2 the two still ran together for 8K, saying they didn’t think suddenly stopping would be good for their bodies.

The two ran the entire journey in barefoot running shoes and followed a raw vegan diet, eating almost exclusively raw fruits and vegetables. The couple claim between the two of them they ate up to 30 bananas each day.

The idea of the year-long trip was to spread awareness of living a healthy lifestyle and raise money for local charities. The trip was made possible by volunteers who followed them around, driving their vehicles and keeping them motivated.
