Nicole Studer, a not so well-known ultrarunner set a new North American 100-mile trail record.

The Dallas runner competed at Rocky Raccoon in Huntsville, Texas last Saturday and ran 14:22:18. She was more than an hour ahead of the next female finisher who came in at 15:34:34. Traci Falbo’s record had been 14:45.

Although she finished first place in the past two years at Rocky Raccoon, she says she did not expect to break a record. It was only towards the end that she realized it was a possibility. Studer doesn’t race with a watch so she was unaware how much faster her splits were compared to last year.

She also earned the 2015 USA Track and Field 100-mile championship title. She says that the course was fairly flat without technical terrain to navigate, helping her run a fast one.

Studer works a 60-hour week and fits in 100 miles of training but doesn’t track her runs. She’s getting ready to race Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc in France this summer.
