Olympic track team announced by Athletics Canada

After a drama filled weekend, Canada has it’s Olympic track and field team.

According to an Athletics Canada press release the nominated team includes 40 athletes to the Olympic Games. Of note for the running community are the following track athletes:

Mohammed Ahmed: 10,000m
Melissa Bishop: 800m
Nathan Brannen: 1500m
Jared Connaughton: 200m
Reid Coolsaet: marathon
Crystal Emmanuel: 200m
Alex Genest: 3000m steeplechase
Phylicia George: 100m / 100m hurdles
Eric Gillis: marathon
Geoff Harris: 800m
Akeem Haynes: 4x100m
Nikkita Holder: 100m hurdles
Cameron Levins: 5000m
Segun Makinde: 4x100m
Jenna Martin: 400m
Nicole Sifunetes: 1500m
Gavin Smelie: 4x100m
Jessica Smith: 800m
Oluseyi Smith: 4x100m
Hilary Stellingwerff: 1500m
Brianne Theisen: heptathlon
Damian Warner: decathlon
Ian Warner: 4x100m
Justyn Warner: 100m / 4x100m

In terms of drama, it didn’t get any better than Jessica Zelinka’s 100m hurdles win on Saturday. You can watch her emotional video interview and read our trials recap here.

Also, Cam Levins, who made the “A” standard both the 5000m and 10,000m, is only nominated for the 5000m. It is unclear at this time where he will be doubling in London. Levins was exempted from having to run the 10,000m at the trials.
