Prefontaine graphic novel to be released
May 30 will mark the 40-year anniversary of the death of Steve Prefontaine, the infamous and much-quoted American runner. Prefontaine attended the University of Oregon and trained under Bill Bowerman. He remained undefeated in the 5,000 and 10,000m during his time in the NCAA and held seven different American records before he died in a tragic car accident at the age of 24.
The 30th will also be the release date for The Art of Running: The Steve Prefontaine Story, Matthew Crehan’s graphic novel, which will cover the entirety of Pre’s life and career.
Crehan funded the book’s artwork through a kickstarter campaign that raised $8,000. The graphic novel was originally supposed to be released last summer, but the eruption of a volcano in Indonesia, where one of the illustrators lived, pushed the deadline back.
