Runner mistakes back pain for labour pain

A Minnesota woman who was training for a half marathon knew she’d have to push through some pain. What she didn’t know is she’d have to literally push.

Trish Staine, 33, had been suffering from back pain after a two-hour run on Sunday. On Monday, she told reporters the pain was so excruciating, she went to the emergency room. Later that day, she delivered a 6 pound, 6 ounce baby girl.

Stain says she did not know she was pregnant. The woman already has two children, ages 7 and 11, and said she did not gain any weight or feel any fetal movement in the months leading up to the birth. Her husband had also had a vasectomy.

The baby, born five weeks early, is expected to go home sometime next week. Stain and her husband named the baby Mira, which is short for Miracle.
