Stefanie Smith broke a 21-year-old University of Windsor record when she ran 9:26.59 in the 3,000m at the Bob Eubanks Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State University on Jan. 15.

Smith broke Missy McCleary’s previous record held by 10 seconds, according to the Windsor Lancers release.

The meet hosted by GVSU took place in Allendale, Mich., located approximately 275 kilometres from Windsor, Ont. and the Canada-U.S. border.

As per tradition, Smith, a London, Ont. native, updated the school record board (above video) in the St. Denis Athletic Centre, the school’s indoor track and field facility. The facility will host the 2016 Ontario university track and field championships in February.

Melissa Bishop, the winner of Canadian Running‘s Performance of the Year, holds the Windsor Lancers 600m and 1,000m indoor records (which can be seen on the record board in the above video).
