Sullivan, Harvey entered into Brantford hall of fame

Kevin Sullivan and Karen Harvey were inducted into the Brantford, Ont., hall of fame on Wednesday.

Husband and wife running duo Kevin Sullivan and Karen Harvey were honoured on Wednesday as they were inducted into the Brantford, Ont., hall of fame.

Sullivan and Harvey were the guests of honour at a banquet for the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition. Sullivan, a distance runner and Olympian, was born and raised in Brantford. He told the Brantford Expositor he was “humbled” by the accolade.

“You realize it’s a humbling experience,” he told the paper. “I never got into sport for fame or awards or accolades.

“But this is nice to be, not only recognized for your athletic accomplishments, but being recognized for the type of person you are and how you represent the city you grew up in,” he said.

Harvey, who was born in Brantford and raised in Paris, is a former collegiate runner and current Florida State University coach. She told the Expositor she was honoured by the recognition.

“It’s an honour to be recognized and to be put into local history,” Harvey said. “I’m just so grateful to see everyone who made this possible for me and to say thank you.

“I want to thank anyone who supports high school sports, whether it be a teacher, coach …. By being involved somehow you’re sowing a seed. With everything I’ve been able to accomplish, it all started here.”
