Many southern Ontario runners raced their first event of 2016 as Burlington, Ont. was the site for Sunday morning’s Chilly Half-Marathon and Frosty 5K.
Local elite training group, Speed River Track Club, had many athletes out including the men’s 5K winner, Barry Britt, and the men’s half-marathon winner, Tristan Woodfine. Amanda McLeod won the Frosty women’s 5K and London, Ont.’s Leslie Sexton took the women’s half-marathon.

The event celebrated its 20th anniversary as one of Ontario’s top March races. Today, runners and walkers were treated to favourable conditions in the city just southwest of Toronto as temperatures hovered around 2C, warm enough that several athletes sported shorts.
Today’s race was the last opportunity for athletes to hit standard for the world half championships. March 7 is the deadline. Sexton and Duchene finished just off the 1:16:00 standard though Duchene has run 1:14:01 earlier this year. Sexton is gearing up for the Rotterdam Marathon on April 10.
