Weekend marathons dominated by masters moms

It’s one week before Mother’s Day and the running scene is celebrating the success of super fast masters moms who ran incredible marathons in Canada over the weekend.

On Sunday, Canadians participated in three notable marathons in the country in Vancouver, Toronto and Mississauga. In each race, the top woman was not only an incredibly fast marathon runner, but also a mother.

The champion of the Goodlife Marathon was Jutta Merilainen. She ran a 3:00:44 marathon. Merilanien is 43. This isn’t her first race success of 2015, she ran the Around The Bay this year finishing with a time of 1:59:26. What an amazing role model for a mother!

Sharlene Cobain was the star of the Mississauga Marathon finishing in first place with a time of 2:55:09 and proving that motherhood doesn’t prevent a woman like her from being a star runner.

The Vancouver Marathon draws quite the crowd every year. Lioudmila Kortchaguina finished first with quite the lead. She finished with a time of 2:37:37. Her marathon PB is 2:29:42.
