Strong Canadian performances in Rotterdam

Krista DuChene and Reid Coolsaet both raced in the Rotterdam Marathon Sunday and ran time that will hopefully qualify them for the 2016 Olympics. Both elites went into the race chasing what is at this point an unknown standard, pacing themselves to what they expect the standard to be.

DuChene finished an impressive third, running 2:29:37, under what previous Canadian Olympic standards have been. Coolsaet also ran a time under previous marks. He finished seventh in 2:11:23.

Official standards are expected later this week.

Kenneth Mungara sets masters record
Kenyan Kenneth Mungara broke an old world masters record on Milan over the weekend. The 41-year-old marathoner ran 2:08:44, besting the previous mark of 2:08:46, set in 2003, by only two seconds.

Mungara is known around the Toronto marathon scene, having on four occasions won the Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Surprise winner in Paris
The increasingly-competitive Paris Marathon saw Mark Korir win the race in 2:05:49. Korir was not a favourite to win the IAAF Gold Label race

Meseret Mengistu ran 2:23:26
